In this talk, Nina Hoechtl & Stephanie Misa, two artist friends converse with curator Ivana Marjanovic about their current exhibitions A Haunting from the Future (Kunstraum Innsbruck) and MAGA Meets Marie (Gallery Gundula Gruber, Vienna), respectively. Also active as members of the 111 years old Austrian Association of Women Artists (VBKÖ) they will share their references, intersectional archival/artistic research practices and thoughts on how intersectional solidarities can be fostered within and through archival materials. How can an intersectional approach enable a critique and reframing of the materials? How can they be thought of in relation to multiracial whiteness (Cristina Beltrán)?
STEPHANIE MISA
graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in 2012. She has a masters from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU, Tisch School of the Arts, and is currently a doctoral researcher at the University of Arts in Helsinki. Her work consistently displays an interest in complex and diverse histories, relating to these topics through her installations, sculptures, videos, prints, and writing— bringing forward questions of identity, ‘authenticity’, hybridity, and embodiment.
