KUNSTRAUM
MORE THAN AN EXHIBITON SPACE
KUNSTRAUM INNSBRUCK a space for people to encounter contemporary art. Founded in 1996 as a non-profit association, it provides free access to art exhibitions.
KUNSTRAUM INNSBRUCK presents a great diversity of aesthetic concepts and productions. It is also a place for discussions about the socio-political and ecological challenges of our time with a focus on solidarity. Art has the power to convey life in another language, enabling us to have new experiences and open up our minds and eyes to think and see beyond established norms.
KUNSTRAUM INNSBRUCK is a community of art lovers. While our exhibitions primarily feature international artists, local actors also play a significant role in our program. We support artists and the public interested in creative practices with the aim of contributing to creating a more beautiful and just society.
We organize exhibitions, actions, lectures, workshops, discussions, artist talks, performances, readings and concerts. We also put on parties and gatherings where we celebrate our work and engagement in the community together! You are warmly invited to join us!

ARCHITECTURE
The building housing KUNSTRAUM INNSBRUCK was originally built as a storage facility for paper in the 1930s. Already in the 1960s it was used intermittently as an alternative space for low-budget exhibitions. In 1996, a private initiative rebuilt and adapted the building, creating a modern infrastructure for exhibitions. Since then, KUNSTRAUM INNSBRUCK has been run as a non-profit association open to the public. In 2004, the space of KUNSTRAUM INNSBRUCK was divided into two parts and rebuilt. The second part of the former art space is now occupied by Galerie Thoman.
