SONGÜL SÖNMEZ

FORENSIC BODY

Five plaits of hair inside five glass tubes, suspended between floor and ceiling with the help of thin steel cables. Thanks to a sound installation, integrated into a lab setting, we learn about the forensic stories of five girls and women murdered in the course of the curfews imposed by Turkey in 2015. Forensic Body (2018) by Songül Sönmez introduces the forensic procedure on the corpses of these five women into the exhibition and reflects on the violence exerted on the bodies of girls and women by the Turkish state.
